I would like to share a recent experience of healing in the practice that means a lot to me. I was called one afternoon by a frantic mum. She had been raised in Christian Science but her Christian husband, who had originally promised to respect her choice of denomination, now seemed quite opposed to anything related to it, including her study, and much less relying on it for health care. Her younger son had fallen, she told me, banged his head heavily, and was bleeding profusely. There was blood everywhere and most of it, she said, seemed to be pouring from his mouth. She was in quite a state, and had called her husband, who was rushing home to assess the situation before taking their little boy to the hospital. She asked me for Christian Science treatment.

As I listened, I had to overcome, and very quickly too, my fear of the picture painted, as well as calm the panicked mum who was petrified for her son, frightened about her husband’s reaction and scared of being “caught” requesting Christian Science treatment. I got a sense that the boy was not conscious or was unusually quiet, though I do not recall the mum saying this exactly. At that moment I knew I could only tell her what I was absolutely sure of. The first was that I would commence treatment right away. The second was that I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that God would sort out the situation.

I remember also reminding her that she was obeying what Isaiah 45:22 says: “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”  We were looking to God, [not man, woman or practitioner], and could trust the promise of the verse which assures of God’s salvation [or healing in this case]. Before we finished the call about two minutes later, she was calm, panic replaced by a note of hope. I asked that she stay in close touch. 

Thank you for mentioning during an Association address a few years ago, to commence treatment immediately when the case involves a child. I did. Remembering that Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health, page 475, that man is not made up of blood, among other material elements, helped me see through the lie of the picture painted by mortal mind. I was able to see the child as a spiritual idea. I knew an idea cannot fall out of Mind, nor be defined by a bit or a lot of blood. I “expunged” the material, erroneous history from thought and held on to the spiritual. I trusted the outcome to God confidently. This was important, as I didn’t hear back from the mum at all that day.

The following day, she called. Her son was alert, happy and well, apart from a small cut on his tongue. There was no need for a hospital visit or drugs. She was very grateful for the quick healing. So am I.
