“As I came out of this amazing healing, my thinking was transformed”

About a month ago, I was in a major car accident. I was hit on the driver’s side of my vehicle while pulling out of a gas station. The impact was so hard and sudden that my vehicle was spun around 180 degrees and my airbags were deployed. When I came to a stop, I was not able to get out of the vehicle on my side. 

I instantly knew I needed to call a practitioner, as rescue personnel would be on the scene in minutes. I was able to reach the practitioner immediately. As I told her what had just happened, she sensed from my shaking voice that the situation was severe. I hung up when the police arrived. 

I was able to exit the vehicle on the passenger side and was immediately approached by rescue personnel. They asked me to go to the hospital for examination to ensure that I had not suffered head or neck injuries. I knew in that moment I needed to take a stand for Christian Science. I declined medical treatment and the request to be taken to the hospital. When I declined medical attention a second time, the rescue personnel had me sign a medical release form. 

Throughout the day, I worked with my practitioner to declare the truth that there are no accidents in the kingdom of God and that nothing had changed for me because I “live and move and have my being” in Him. Within several hours of the accident, I began to experience neck pain and a headache. But after several hours of continuous prayerful work, the headache and pain lifted. The next morning when I woke up, it was as if nothing had happened. 

One day later, there was some neck and muscle discomfort as mortal mind tried to suggest that I had not had a healing. Again I worked with my practitioner to declare the truth about my being and to know that the healing could not be reversed. I am happy to say that no further symptoms resulting from this supposed “accident” ever presented themselves.  

As I came out of this amazing healing, my thinking was transformed. My thought was being lifted higher as my understanding of God was expanding. There was tremendous joy and a sense of peace from this healing experience that I can’t really put into words. What I can say is that as I looked around me, all I saw was Love; there was no longer a sense of things material, but I saw everything as spiritual. 

On a side note to this incident, my vehicle was declared a total loss. During the two week period of waiting for this to be determined, I worked to know that whatever the outcome, it could only be God’s expression of love for me; all I needed to do was to listen and follow His lead. When it came time to look for a replacement vehicle, it became very clear to me what vehicle I needed to purchase and exactly where I needed to go to get it. When I arrived at the dealership, I got a sales representative who made me feel comfortable. When it came time to work out the price, the dealership came back with an offer that was exactly what I was expecting based on my research through the AAA car buying program. The whole process was completely hassle free, and I knew it was an outcome of the spiritual work I had done leading up to this step. God’s love continued to overflow from the physical healing to the material need being filled. 

But the need for continuing alertness was soon apparent. The day I picked up my new vehicle from the dealer, someone backed into the passenger side, causing minor damage. Initially I started to fall right into mortal mind’s trap. But when we are watching and standing guard as Mrs. Eddy says, we no longer react to situations. Instead, we respond to them in Love. 

I remained calm as I exited my vehicle and exchanged information with the other driver. The way he kept apologizing gave me the sense that he expected me to become irate. I simply chose to show him God’s love in the process. We had several conversations over the course of the following week, as he offered to cover all the expenses for the repairs. Each time we spoke there was always a sense of calmness and respect. 

I am happy to say that my new vehicle was completely repaired, as if nothing had happened. But the biggest demonstration for me was the understanding that mortal mind cannot take away God’s goodness and provision and that we need to see this even when the material picture tries to say differently.
