“They started with a sense of despair and human frailty, but saw glimpses of their innate perfection, and took flight”

Wow wow wow! I have just finished A Century of Christian Science Healing and what a privilege to have a deep dive into all that is good and strong and immortal.  I have absolutely loved it.  It is such a wonderful joy to be reminded of the foundation and effectiveness of all that we think, are, and express. No problem can withstand that pure outpouring of good that is constantly available to us and encircles us.

I’m not sure I can pick two of my favourites because they all touched me and moved me – I will say that two things that shone so brightly were humility and Love – these qualities that give us the capacity to be more aligned with what already is and who we already are as God’s perfect expression. And I loved that many of the healings had nothing to do with a perfect human approach to the need for healing (they never really do), and many writers even started with a sense of despair and human frailty but saw glimpses of their innate perfection and so took flight.

One of the healings that came back to me whilst reading was the experience I had when I was rafting on a makeshift bamboo raft in northern Thailand on my way to come to class (part of a trip to many different countries). A fellow traveller on the raft fell into some rather wild water and a very rocky patch. I didn’t really think but just held onto to one pole in the centre of the raft and leaned far out to help him back on.  As I did so, one of my feet slipped and got trapped between the raft and a rock in the water.  We got the fellow back on, but as I looked down at my foot it appeared the ankle had been broken and certainly was not feeling great. (British understatement.) Everyone was rather alarmed, and we were at least a day away from “help”.   But here’s the thing: I was so excited to be coming to class and really had been seeing the nature and goodness of God on the whole trip. It was expressed in every tree, flower, water, and person – just Life flowing from everywhere and obvious in every moment.  I didn’t have a phone, access to a computer or practitioner but I knew that all things are possible to God, that I wasn't alone and never could be and that I could not be punished for being loving or selfless.

It will come as no surprise to you that when we reached the end of the day at the next camp, I just walked off the raft, no bruising, no pain, and to say it was eye-opening to my friends is not even close to how amazed and grateful they were. I had not forgotten the healing but to read so many instances of help in seemingly helpless situations brought it flooding back.

I will continue to strive to be more consecrated in my study and in my expectation of healing and expression of God’s nature – the book has reminded me that actually prayer is effective in any situation or environment and that I can be more alert in my thinking ALL the time.  I will strive to take the healing power of Christ thought to every situation, whether home, friends, or any work environments, and the world.

Thank you, Skip, for what you do. It probably feels like you’re dragging some of us over the “finish line” sometimes, but please keep lifting us up and cheering us on.  I see it all.
