Greater diligence, persistence, and humility

  1. One augmentation to my view of C.S. healing is the aspect of regeneration of character. Healing in so many testimonies included a recognition of this aspect. For example, on pp. 149-151 the testifier speaks of inspiration from the New Testament account of Jesus’ disciples, – not only the spiritual qualities that each represented, but the human failings each had to overcome.  In searching her thought the testifier found that she too needed to deal with these things. She detailed what each disciple needed to overcome, and she experienced, over several years, a “mental purging” going on of false traits. This led to complete physical healing.

  2. I particularly enjoyed two early accounts of healing, that of Captain Eastman and that of Joseph Mann. They both recognized the verity of Christian Science and accepted it wholeheartedly.  Captain Eastman had great humility and was selfless in his desire for his wife’s healing. Both he and Joseph Mann immediately wanted to share Christian Science to heal others.

  3. A healing of my son many years ago was special to me for its clarity. He was about three at the time. One morning we were in the car doing some errands when he began to complain of discomfort in his tummy. At first I thought it would pass and we could continue with our errands, but it soon seemed wise to head home. He lay down on his bed and seemed to be in extreme discomfort. As I sat on his bed I reached out to God and it came to me to go through each of the synonyms for God, declaring that the activity these synonyms represented was going on “right here and right now.” For example, I would declare that the strength and vitality of Life was going on, the gentleness, harmony, joy, and peace of Soul was present right there. And I assured my son that God not only was all around him, but also was right where he was, right now. As I went through the synonyms my son fell asleep peacefully. Later he woke up happy, hungry, and ready to play. I felt that the declaration of the present activity of good, excluding all else, was what lifted the claim of mortal mind in this situation.

  4. Greater diligence, persistence, and humility in my prayers is an increased desire from reading of others’ experiences and I have felt this desire turn into some positive action.
