"No more lingering pain!"
/What the testifiers saying in this book made me feel as if I was experiencing the healing myself with them. There were chastening and being lifted up with hope and expectancy of healing.
I saw God’s care being constant for His creation no matter how dramatic the human scene might be. His presence has been always gentle. Indeed, He has been saying tenderly, “[I’ve] got the whole world in [MY] hands.”
Whether the healing came through the help of practitioner, family, and friends, or on their own study, in essence, they were all taught of God, thus bringing healing. Each healing was a testament to the passage in Jeremiah: “And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord.”
Wayne Bart: For someone who was teaching math in a major institution and still striving to find purpose in his life and prayerfully preparing to be blessed on his own was inspiring. His “longing to be good and true has brought the light again.” (Hymn 51) This testimony took me to a new level of thinking about the Bible Lesson. Not just reading but earnest studying that brings healing.
Dwight Mills: I am still in awe of this account. I need to ponder more on this. I would like to make my own what Mr. Mills testifies. I was once camping with friends. We were building a fire to fix dinner. For no reason I was led to go out into the middle of the open field and look down. I found a set of my keys in the grass. I didn’t even know I lost my keys. I’ve been since saying that God knows exactly where things are, but there should be more to that. I am still seeking for a better explanation of this experience.
Many years ago, I fell and broke an elbow. Another time, I slipped from the top of the stairs and landed at the bottom. I could not walk and was housebound for a week. Both times I asked practitioners for prayerful help. I went about doing daily activities with less freedom. It took a long time to heal on both occasions. Healing came, but from time to time the pain returned. I thought I would give a testimony about these experiences when the pain completely stopped. Last year it occurred to me how absurd my reasoning for not giving the testimony was. How can I wait for the pain to stop so I can thank God for the healing? I gave the testimony at my branch church. No more lingering pain! After the first healing, I was led to return home to my family after many years of living abroad. After the second healing I obeyed to make another move where I have been learning what “the broader interpretations of being” and “enlarged individuality” really mean.
Heber Hostetter read Science and Health between grades 10 and 11 to learn more of God. Thomas Leishman, a Bible scholar, became a Christian Scientist after reading the same book. This Bible passage from Deuteronomy explains the situation so plainly: “My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass.” They listened as God spake, and their lives were changed. Leishman summed it up, “I had reached the unescapable conclusion that Christian Science was the faith which I must accept at all costs....” I must work wholeheartedly with more innocence, purity, and most of all, humility.
